For “low, slow, and small” drones, laser anti-drone systems employ high-energy laser beams to deliver precise damage; they represent a directed energy weapon system. Utilizing high-energy beams as the attack medium, lasers reach targets at light speed and achieve “instant destruction upon detection” through thermal effects. Compared to traditional air defense weapons, laser anti-drone systems offer significant advantages—including low per-shot cost, extensive ammunition capacity, rapid engagement capability, precision strikes, and progressive damage accumulation—making them a crucial component of future short-range defense systems. These systems are now available in fixed, vehicle-mounted, and shipborne configurations.
The laser counter-system consists of one high-power laser emission module, one high-precision electro-optical tracking system, one integrated support module, one base structure, and one control and processing unit. Utilizing optical field modulation and advanced thermal management technologies, the system ensures long-range strike efficacy and continuous illumination capability, offering advantages such as rapid response, precise targeting, extended range (1.5 km–5 km), prolonged illumination duration, and swift fire-switching. It can stably track highly mobile targets moving at 100 m/s, achieving reliable tracking, electro-optical blindness, and effective destruction within a 10-km radius to establish a low-altitude defense network. The system supports simultaneous charging and operation, enabling 24/7 continuous deployment to safeguard protected areas.
The system’s core advantages include: extremely low cost – primarily powered by electricity, with a single launch costing only about ten yuan RMB, offering a significantly better cost-effectiveness ratio than traditional interception methods; rapid response – the laser beam travels at the speed of light, requiring almost no advance calculation, achieving hit upon launch within seconds per engagement; continuous operation – provided sufficient energy is available, it can fire nearly indefinitely without producing noise, leaving no trajectory traces, or causing collateral damage; precise strike – when combined with a high-precision tracking and targeting system, it can deliver targeted damage to critical drone components from distances of several kilometers.
The primary application scenarios include: critical area air defense – low-altitude security for key facilities such as airports, nuclear power plants, government agencies, and large gathering venues; field air defense – protecting military convoys and frontline positions from drone detection and attacks during troop movements; major event security – temporary protection missions for events like sports competitions and summits, featuring rapid deployment and ready-to-use capabilities; border and maritime defense – border patrols and coastal surveillance, enabling immediate countermeasures against intruding drones.
